The Cubs have acquired Rich Harden from the A's. In return they gave up Murton, Gallagher, and Patterson.
Props to Matt Snyder for calling Patterson's hot streak trade bait.
A minor leaguer is in the deal as well and the Cubs get another pitcher, making it a six player deal. Harden is expected to pitch against the Giants at Wrigley this week.

I'm a baseball fan and I pretend to be an expert, how about that? Breaking down this trade leaves me very excited, and upon further review, more happy than say if we got CC. The key with Harden, and you hear it every time after his name, is health. This guy is better than CC when healthy, is not a 3 month rental (we get him next year plus a team option for the year after), we kept both lefties in the rotation, and Gaudin is a very nice add for the bullpen or possible even a #5 SP.
What we gave up: Gallagher whom won't ever be a top 3 SP, two players that are nice but won't sniff the OF with the current team, and an A ball catcher that isn't Soto. I think the upside and "win," of this trade is huge.
I do question why Billy Beane made this trade of Harden now? He still has a year on his contract and is coming off 11 straight starts (which is good for him).
Another thought, I believe Hill's struggles this year will allow him to come back next year and help the Cubs. The blessing in disguise there is that if he would have performed as expected, is he would have been an A right now.

Good analysis. Beane is no idiot, so he must have some logic in this trade. I just finished Moneyball, so I have a new found interest in anything Billy Beane does. He must like the OPS numbers for Murton and Patterson.
If Lilly continues his performance as of late, we have four solid starters and a nice variety to choose from for our fifth starter.
